Is Big Walk Crossplay? Platforms and Join Codes Explained
A direct guide to playing together across Steam, Mac, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 without guessing how friends connect.

On this page
Yes. Big Walk has crossplay, and the official FAQ says players on different supported systems can play together. The Steam store also lists Cross-Platform Multiplayer. This is full online group compatibility across the versions that currently exist, not a promise for unannounced platforms.
Which platforms can crossplay?
The supported lineup is Windows and Mac through Steam, the separate Mac App Store release, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. A player on any of those versions can join friends using another listed system.
Xbox, PlayStation 4 and the original Nintendo Switch are not in the official platform list. Crossplay cannot make an unsupported console run the game. The developer’s FAQ currently says no other platforms are planned.
How a cross-platform group joins
One person hosts the session. On the same platform, an active host may appear automatically in the friend-game menu when players are connected through Steam or the console’s friend service. For a mixed-platform group, use a Join Code.
The host sees a short, unique Join Code in the corner of the host menu before starting. After the world loads, the code remains available under Session Details in the in-game menu. Send that code privately to the invited players, who can enter it instead of relying on a shared friend list.
The Mac App Store version does not support Game Center friend listings, according to the official FAQ. Mac App Store players should expect to use the Join Code even when everyone knows one another.
Do versions have to match exactly?
A Big Walk version uses three numbers, such as 1.2.3. The first two numbers need to match for people to play together; the third can differ. If a friend cannot connect shortly after an update, compare the version shown by each copy and install pending updates before troubleshooting the network.
What crossplay does not include
Crossplay is online multiplayer, not local split-screen. It also does not provide random matchmaking. Big Walk is meant for a group that organizes itself and continues the handcrafted adventure over multiple sessions.
The host remains the keeper of the save no matter which platform everyone uses. If the original host is absent, the rest of the group cannot simply continue that host’s progress from a different device. Choose the host with future sessions in mind.
Quick crossplay setup
- Update every copy of the game.
- Ask one player with a stable connection to host and load into the world.
- Open Session Details and copy the Join Code.
- Have players on other platforms join with that code.
- Keep communication inside Big Walk’s voice or text chat so the game’s distance-based mechanics still work.
That is the entire platform bridge: supported version, current update, active host and Join Code.
