Can You Play Big Walk on Mac? Steam, App Store and Requirements

The distribution-specific Mac requirements and the important Join Code difference between Steam and the Mac App Store.

Yes. Big Walk has Mac support through Steam and the Mac App Store, but their published compatibility lines are not identical. Keep each store's claim separate when checking a machine.

Steam Mac requirements

LevelOperating systemProcessorMemory
MinimummacOS 15Apple M1 or newer16 GB RAM
RecommendedmacOS 15Apple M3 or newer16 GB RAM

Those specifications apply to the Steam distribution. There is no Intel processor option in Steam's minimum requirement. If a Mac uses an Intel chip or cannot run macOS 15, it is outside Steam's published specification.

Mac App Store compatibility

Apple's Mac App Store page separately says macOS 12.0 or later. It does not publish a processor or memory minimum in the compatibility field used for this guide. That conflicts with Steam's stricter macOS 15, M1 and 16 GB requirement, so this guide does not collapse the two storefronts into one universal minimum.

Before buying from Apple, open the product page on the intended Mac and use the App Store's own compatibility check. Before buying on Steam, use Steam's hardware table above.

Steam or Mac App Store?

Both stores lead to the supported Mac version, but the surrounding service differs.

Choose Steam if your library and friends are already there. A friend’s hosted game may appear through Steam’s friend service, and the purchase sits alongside the Windows edition on the same storefront.

Choose the Mac App Store if that is your preferred Apple purchase channel. The official FAQ notes that this version does not support Game Center friend-game listings. It still supports crossplay, but joining friends requires the in-game Join Code.

Prices can differ by store, currency, promotion and region. Compare the final checkout page rather than assuming a temporary Steam discount also applies to Apple.

Does Mac crossplay with consoles?

Yes. A Mac player can join people on Windows, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The host shares a Join Code when a platform friend listing is unavailable. Big Walk supports the same 2–12 player range across the available systems.

The first two parts of the game version must match. Update the Mac copy when a recently patched console host rejects the connection.

Mac performance basics

If the game runs slowly, the official FAQ recommends lowering Render Scale, then lowering Quality, and finally raising Render Scale gradually until visual clarity and performance balance. Keep the host at a reasonable frame rate because host performance can also affect network behavior for the group.

For voice problems, check the microphone at the macOS system level and then watch Big Walk’s Microphone Activity indicator under Settings > Audio. In-game text chat remains a full alternative for players who cannot or do not want to use a microphone.
